Cloth. Condition: Very Good Indeed. One of eight hundred vibrant facsimile copies of this 16th-century portolan by Antonio Millo, a captain and cartographer. This very scarce facsimile serves as a faithful reproduction of Antonio Millo's portolan atlas, the manuscript of which is now presented at the permanent exhibition in the Palace of the Commonwealth. One of eight hundred copies, this copy being number XV. A large folio consisting of two volumes total. With the cloth-bound facsimile volume preserved in the original matching slipcase and the cloth-bound commentary volume held in the slipcase's inside pocket. Commentary by German geographer, cartographer and liibrarian Lothar Zogner, translated into English by Peter Hogg. Consisting of eight detailed portolano charts, Millo's atlas covers the coasts of Western Europe, the Meditteranean Sea, the Black Sea, Central America and Africa. This facsimile presents the atlas across thirty-two leaves, reproduced in vibrant colour with with a moveable volvelle and gilt. Collated, complete. Millo was a captian and cartographer of the mid-to-late 16th century, who is said to have learned the art of mapmaking from Portuguese exile Diogo Homem. Large folio, with the facsimile volume preserved in the original cloth-backed slipcase. With the commentary volume held in the slipcase's inside pocket.Externally, with a few marks to the slipcase and light marks to the commentary volume's boards. Otherwise, very smart indeed. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages. Very Good Indeed. Antonio Millo (illustrator). book.…
