Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a series of letters and certificates abstracted from the public record office and other sources comprising the registered estates of Roman Catholic landowners in Northumberland and the correspondence of Miles Stapylton, who was auditor, commissioner, and librarian of Dr. John Cosin, Bishop of Durham. These documents will be of great interest to genealogists, topographical writers, and students of contemporary economic conditions. The certificates provide a snapshot of the landed estates of Roman Catholics from the beginning of the reign of George I, extending to the year 1787, and the letters provide insights into the social and religious life of the period. Together, these documents offer a valuable resource for understanding the lives and experiences of Roman Catholics in the north of England during the 18th century. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. …
