Je länger und intensiver man an einer Rolle arbeitet, desto eigenständiger und lebendiger wird sich der Rollencharakter in der Seele vergegenwärtigen und als selbstständige Persönlichkeit neben den Alltagsmenschen hintreten. Zwei Personen leben dann zunächst im Bewusstsein des Schauspielers, die man ganz klar auseinanderhalten muss. Wenn immer sich diese zwei Personen vermischen, wird das schlimme Folgen haben. Entweder verfällt der Schauspieler in die reine Selbstdarstellung, oder, schlimmer noch, der Rollencharakter beginnt sich in sein normales alltägliches Dasein einzumischen. Man darf sich niemals mit seiner Rolle »identifizieren« wollen, auch wenn man das oft naiverweise als geradezu charakteristisch für gutes Rollenspiel annimmt.
