Signed on the front free endpaper: "For Hope and Ralph Gunbel, with all good wishes - Michael Collins / October 1976." Additional signature by his sister, Agnes Collins Spera. Michael Collins (1930-2021) served as the command module pilot during the Apollo 11 mission. He served alongside Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin but remained in orbit around the moon as the others explored the surface. He retired from NASA in 1970. He is one of 24 people who have flown to the moon. In retirement, he became the Director of the National Air and Space Museum. He died at age 90 in 2021. Signed.

Michael Collins (1930-2021) was an American astronaut and a retired United States Air Force Major General. He served as the Command Module Pilot for NASA's Apollo 11 mission in July 1969, during which Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to land on the Moon. Collins remained in lunar orbit aboard the Command Module while Armstrong and Aldrin explored the lunar surface. Prior to his time at NASA, Collins was a test pilot and an Air Force pilot. He later held various administrative positions within NASA before retiring from both the Air Force and NASA in 1970. Collins authored several books and continued to advocate for space exploration until his passing on April 28, 2021. Signed.
