From the Preface: "The Bibliography, international in scope, is a list of approximately eighty-four hundred works on costume and adornment, including books in all languages. The books are listed in a dictionary catalog with author, subject, and title entries, and references, in one alphabet. Full bibliographic information is given for each book: the author's name in full, title, illustrator, engraver, place, publisher, date, paging, size, illustrations and plates (with color indicated). The entries include references to the H. W. Wilson Company's COSTUME INDEX, to Colas's BIBLIOGRAPHIC DU COSTUME, and to Lipperheide's KATALOG DER KOSTÜMBIBLIOTHEK. Library of Congress card number are also given. The compilers believe that this is by far the most extensive and complete bibliography of costume ever offered, covering every period and country from prehistoric times to the present day, as well as every specialized phase of the subject."
