Da questa iniziativa seguì il suo trasferimento a Londra dove divenne direttore della London Gallery, che gestì con Roland Penrose fino all 1950 e caporedattore del London Bulletin (1938-1940), che fu uno dei bollettini più importanti tra i periodici surrealisti in lingua inglese. Mesens dalla fine degli anni Trenta visse in permanenza a Londra, trascorrendo lunghi soggiorni a Bruxelles, a Milano e a Venezia.
