Unkedn [1869?]; wide4to original calf boards covered by marbled paper but exposing calf spine and corners; spine has no titles but is divided into four registers by double black lines; A Swedish historical world atlas with 13 beautiful hand colored maps. It shows "Medeltiden och Nyare Tiden" (The Middle Ages and Newer Times ). Another section showing "Gamla Tiden" (The Ancient Time) was also published butr not included in this volume. The atlas has unique design characteristics with several insets and different lay outs and multiple pastel colors. Mentzer was the force behind a number of Swedish atlases and maps in the second half of the 19th. century. In 1856 Mentzer and Wiberg published their famous "Atlas till Sveriges Historia" a historic atlas of Sweden. In 1860 Mentzer published a geographical world atlas in folio. These maps are on double folio pages which could be easily dismounted and framed as impressive "doublewide" 4to size maps. The Swedish labelling gives them an exotic feel.
