Ctenari, reky a more neztraceji svuj beh, a nic se nezmeni. Proc jsme se o tom dozvedeli az po osmdesati letech od prvniho vydani? Pocet tech, kteri cetli Menclovu knihu Reky a mo…re, je minimalni. Text je vyraznou predehrou k ceskemu surrealismu a muze pomoci usadit ceskou literaturu na jeji misto. Astronomove dokazou vypocitat existenci kosmickych teles, ale v literature je to slozitejsi. Citime vyprahlost z hledani ctenarske slasti. Mencluv text se jako sal tkany na vode dotyka sedych hrazi. Ackoliv se nemeni, Menclova zizen po poznani je nezpochybnitelna. Kniha vysla ve stejnem roce jako cesky preklad fragmentu Anna Livia Plurabella z Joyceova romanu. Predtim byla v Parizi zalozena skupina Vysoka hra, jejiz cleny byli Rene Daumal a Roger Gilbert-Lecomte. Dalsimi vlivnymi postavami jsou Lautreamont, Deml, Vancura a Nezval. Jak se to mohlo prihodit? I v ceske literature je treba prikrocit k auditu, abychom na sklonku jeji papirove podoby stihli necekany zachvat z takoveho dobrodruzstvi. Ctenari, zivot more tvym zivotem stejne hruzy bude vazen mym klidem, a neni treba usuzovat nad pravdou nebo zkreslenym vyrazem. Pochybovaci by se mohli propadnout do propadliste, ktere jim neda rozum.
