Black cloth with gilt on black sp. label, an as new library binding. iv + 17 - 156 + 22 plates with tissue guards + 33 (pub. catalogue), 5 text figs, 18 of the 22 plates are chromolithographs; the jump in pagination from iv to 17 is odd as no hint of anything removed or awkward binding transition - seems to be a production or pagination error. T.p, has early small oval Smithsonian stamp, verso has larger green square 'Surplus Duplicate' stamp which shows through on t.p. recto, a tiny little printed logo bottom inner corner rear paste-down, unlettered, possibly binder's, otherwise clean, tight and unmarked, touch of dustiness to top edge.15 cm x 21 cm.
