Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. A charming vintage British edition of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women, illustrated in colour by noted British illustrator Faith Jaques and published as part of the Treasure Library by Contact Publications Ltd., 7 Cork Street, London. Printed in Great Britain by the Shenval Press, Simson Sh…and Ltd., London, Hertford and Harlow. This edition appears to date from circa 1950, making it an early example of Faith Jaques's book illustration work. A particularly attractive edition, bound in pale blue-green decorative boards with red and black ornamental borders, a dark contrasting spine, elaborate gilt-toned decorative panels and the Treasure Library monogram to the boards and spine. The book contains lovely full-page colour illustrations by Faith Jaques. Faith Jaques went on to become a highly regarded British children's-book illustrator, working on numerous classic titles during a career spanning several decades. A beautiful vintage edition of one of the best-loved classics of nineteenth-century literature, with considerable decorative shelf appeal. An appealing copy for collectors of Louisa May Alcott, vintage children's literature, illustrated classics, or the work of Faith Jaques. Original decorative hardcover binding remains attractive and structurally sound. Moderate age-related wear, including rubbing and wear to the corners, board edges and spine ends, with some surface marks and scuffing to the boards. Spine decoration and lettering remain clearly visible. Page edges show expected toning from age. Interior pages are generally clean and well preserved, with attractive colour illustrations remaining bright. Some wear is visible at the inner hinge near the front of the book. Please examine photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description. No dust jacket present. Possibly C1950. Faith Jaques (illustrator).
