Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Very Good dj. First Edition. [spine slightly turned, light shelfwear; jacket is bright and attractive despite some laminate-puckering on the front panel and scuffing/rubbing to rear panel; it is, however, about 1/8" shorter than the book itself, for some reason]. "Can an ex-Hollywood starlet find happiness writing a dirty book?" asks the cover blurb. It's "the story of what happened when Bonnie Erlich signed a contract with Dave Shmeer, publisher of bestsellers, and made use of his formula C = 2BS+N (Chapter = 2 Bedroom Scenes + Narrative)." This was the author's second book, and apparently her only novel. She seems to have subsequently abandoned fiction in favor of the self-help industry: all of her subsequent four books have been in that vein ("What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger," that sort of thing), and in 1974 she founded a Philadelphia-based organization called the Wives-Self-Help Foundation. (Her photo on the rear jacket panel, incidentally, is captioned "This is the broad who wrote The Broadbelters." No doubt another Dave Shmeer touch.) NOISBN. Illustrated by (dj design) Bernard Wolff (illustrator). …

She majored in engineering at The University of California, Berkeley, before switching to English. While she was in Berkeley, she met Earll. In 1962 she married Earll Kingston, an actor, and began a high-school teaching career. Their son, Joseph Lawrence Chung Mei, was born in 1963. From 1965 to 1967, Maxine taught English and mathematics at Sunset High School in Hayward, California. After relocating to Hawaii, her boredom in a lonely hotel 80 miles north of Oahu caused Maxine to begin writing extensively, finally completing and publishing her first book, The Woman Warrior: Memoir of a Girlhood Among Ghosts, in 1976. She began teaching English at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa that same year. By 1981 she had moved on to teach at Berkeley. " (from Wikipedia) ; Signed by Author.
