Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. It seems just extraordinary that as recently as 1975 a dust jacket blurb was boasting: "Here at last is the first complete seafood book ever written". I just did a search for "complete seafood" under the cookbooks category on Amazon, and 133 entries came up. Yes, I know that not all the entries are separate titles, but you get my drift. Written by a couple of scuba divers with a passion for the "fruits de mar", and illustrated with photographs (a few in color) and drawings, the book contains over 250 recipes and some guidance on preparation techniques. And the recipes go from simple to elaborate and from commonplace to downright weird. I guess that any book which includes instructions on how to clean your marine iguana, and has a recipe for Shredded Chicken with Jellyfish, could claim to be "complete"! Printed in the U.S. and published simultaneously by Barnes in the U.S. and Yoseloff in the U.K. Minor softening at spine ends, but a near fine copy in very good dust jacket indeed, a little rubbed and with slight wear to spine ends.

Colour plate, b/w photograph plates, line illustrations. Brown boards, spine titled in gilt. Slightly used and bumped, signs of former damp-staining to lower edge. Working copy only in poor, insect-damaged dust-wrapper. Smells musty. "Such pastimes as beachcombing, skin diving, boating, and fishing are bound to create the desire for ever deeper knowledge about our creatures of the sea." The authors strive to answer this demand for more information, especially as it is relevant to the forager and cook.
