So werden im Bereich der Skulptur "Zwielicht"- und "Camera"-Arbeiten gezeigt, dazu die "Percussion"-Skulpturen. Mit Collagen und Zeichnunge…n wird ein bedeutender, bisher eher im Verborgenen gebliebener Werkteil gezeigt. Gerade die ästhetische Disparatheit zwischen Skulpturen und Papierarbeiten, aber auch im Bereich der Zeichnung selbst zwischen Papierarbeiten mit erotischen Motiven und jenen Blättern, die sich der konstruktiven Kalkulation hingeben, weist auf die Spannweite des Werks hin und also auf die Spannung, in die uns dieses CEuvre versetzt. Mattner hat mit seinen Skulpturen eine Sprache erarbeitet, die ihn in die Lage setzt, die Metamorphosen des Lichts zwischen Finsternis und Helligkeit zu beschreiben. Im diffizilen System dieser Poetik spiegeln sich jene luziden Transformationen, denen das künstlerische Interesse Mattners gilt. Der Künstler verfolgt die Passage des Luminosen zwischen Nacht und Tag, er ist der Passage des Erotischen zwischen dem orgiastischen Moment und der nahezu letalen Lähmung auf der Spur, und er beschreibt die Passage des konstruktiven Kalküls bis zur Vision des entmaterialisierten, idealen Raumkörpers. Hier ist das Leitmotiv wahrnehmbar, das diese Kunst strukturiert. Den Passagen der Existenz gilt Mattners Kunst und ihre Aura bildet sich in jenem Zwielicht, das durch den Glanz des Tages wie durch die Dunkelheit der Nacht aufgeladen ist.
