Boller, went West in the 1850's becoming a fur trader on the upper Missouri. He writes of his life as a fur trader in the rare work, Among The Indians, Eight Years In The Far West, 1858-1866. The letters presented here were written by Boller to family at home. In addition, this work presents Boller's journal that he kept while at Ft. Atkinson in the fall of 1858. Near fine.

A detailed and very interesting journal, kept by Boller from September 1 through December 31, 1858. Published here for the first time. A bonus is the additional article entitled,General Alfred Sully And The Northwest Indian Expedition. Sully led the punitive expedition against hostile Sioux Indians in Dakota Territory, culminating in the Battle of White Stone Hill on September 3, 1863. (Pages 240-259). Very lightly rubbed.
