Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. 4to, lii+pp131 complete with 3 tipped in photographic plates (including frontis) , 1 b/w illustration and 2 fold-out colour maps to rear. Original green cloth binding with gilt titles to spine and black game bird to front board in good condition with shelf wear to top & tail of spine, some rubbing to edges and tips of bevelled boards with small nicks down sides of spine. Hinges are a little weak but binding still solid. Inside title page has transfer of photographic frontis with all other pages, almost all uncut, and the 2 maps to rear in very good, clean condition with the odd spot. This important work by Rev. Murray A. Mathew, member of British Ornithologists' Union and Fellow of the Linnean Society provided the first comprehensive study of the bird populations in Pembrokeshire. Scarce.

Dark red board bindings, presumably library's, with faded gilt lettering on spine in very good condition - edges and top and bottom of spine a bit chipped, and some age marks. Binding still whole, pages tight with some tanning and light foxing at edges. Illustrated throughout with b&w, sepia and colour plates. Three maps at back, all with tears but whole and clean. Previous owner's name & address handwritten on front flyleaf.

Mathew was a member of the BOU and a Fellow of the Linnean Society. He spent the years between 1880 and 1888 living at Stone Hall, Pembrokeshire whilst Curate of St. Laurence, Wolf's Castle (Mullens and Swann).
