Former owner's signature in black ink on a front flyleaf in each volume. Pages are virtually pristine and intact except for light age toning. Covers are clean and intact overall but have light rubbing to front and back and moderate wear along edges and corners. Binding is tight. Very Good copies. A two-volume collection of select essays by Thomas De Quincey. Edited with annotations by David Masson. Vol. I contains the following: De Quincey's satirical series, Murder Considered as One of the Fine Arts; Early Memorials of Grasmere; and Revolt of the Tartars. The following are in Vol. II: The Spanish Military Nun, The English Mail-Coach, and Suspira de Profundis: Being a Sequel to the "Confession of an English Opium-Eater." Thomas De Quincey (1785-1859) was an English author, essayist, and literary critic. He is perhaps known for his autobiographical work, Confessions of an English Opium-Eater (1821), which is not included in this collection of essays.
