Even if a well-managed library existed at Cottesmore 'it is not likely I should render any assistance, as I only help those who help themselves and give proof of continued cooperation'. He is surprised that Carnegie has made a donation, and discusses the stipulation made by him on giving £30,000 towards Marylebone Library.
