At the age of 17 he traveled to Peru to become a Dominican friar. His parents rejected this vocation, so Hojeda decided to stay In Peru. His famous epic poem, La Cristiada, was first published in Seville in 1611. In it, he describes the Passion of Jesus Christ in royal octaves, inspired by the four Gospels. Sister Mary Edgar Meyer was a Franciscan nun who received a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. She was professor of Romance languages at Marian College and a translator of Spanish works into English. Dark green cloth-covered board with gilt title to spine. Slight discoloration to front cover.
