First Edition
Condition: Good. 2nd Printing, Revised. Description: Illustrated with simple drawings. Although there is no wartime compliance statement, this is clearly a war-related publication. From the material preceding the foreword: ''The material contained herein has been written and illustrated from lectures and demonstrations given to combat and defense units all over America. The purpose of this book is to prime the imagination of those who are likely to be called upon to defend our America. Its purpose is to inform them that there is no 'superior race.' Superiority comes only to those who earn it through mental and physical alertness and training. Many letters from leading citizen complimented the author on the first edition of this book. Letters from men in the service particularly were greatly appreciated.'' The foreword talks of a match between an American amateur boxer, Captain Warren Clear, and a Ju Jutsu champion of the Imperial Japanese Army -- Captain Kitamura. Jules Martell, the author of this book, was former champion Ju Jutsu wrestler of the United States Army. While champion he met and defeated the Japanese champion Yamahiati, in a match held in Seattle, Washington in 1917. The writing in this book reflects the prevailing attitude of Americans toward the Japanese in 1944. In short, the opening comments are rather offensive.
