Crouch, at the Bell in the Poultry, near Cheapside (London), 1694. Bound in a fine modern calf leather binding with incised line decals and raised bands to spine. With burgundy and gilt title label to spine. Binding with just light scuffing. Corners al still crisp and firm. Binding of contents is sound with modern plain endpapers with some mild offset spotting. Text pages are good overall, with some faults. Overall text is generally clean and clear. Title page is age discolored with nibbled margins. Occasional nibbled edge or small worm trail. Pages 125-138 have nibbled and frayed vertical edge with some marginal losses to edge of text. 2cm marginal tear to p. 141 and some staining to p. 142. Pages 205-212 also have nibbled vertical edge with marginal losses. Final text page p.212 has a central enclosed tear of around 7cm. We believe the book should have p.213 as its final page according to library records, so it appears that this page is missing. Despite the listed faults, the book still presents well, and provides a rare opportunity to acquire this scarce original 1694 first edition. Title Page + 1-79pp + 90-212pp. There are no stated page numbers 80-89, but this is as expected and was issued in this manner. p. 213 is absent. What should be numbered p.158 and p.159 are wrongly headed p.142 &p.143 (as issued). Approximate dimensions: 168mm high x 107mm wide x 20mm deep. Weight approximately 224g.
