First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. First edition. Small folio hardcover in tan buckram stamped in red. Fine/ issued without dust jacket. 25 pp., three sample text pages including the evnetual title page of the set (see below) plus four striking full page illustrations: a wood engraving by Agnes Miller Parker of a scene from Richard II; a wood engraving by Demetrios Galanis from Troilus and Cressida; a hand-colored drawing by Gordon Ross from The Merry Wives of Windsor; and a color drawing by Arthur Rackham from A Midsummer Night's Dream. This was a preliminary volume to the eventual 41-volume set limited to 1950 sets. While the full set is uncommon and pricey, they often lack this "Preview" volume as the plates were excised for display.
