Paperback. Condition: new. Furness, Thelma Smith (illustrator). Paperback. Freddie is an ordinary little firefly who thinks he has no talent to either play a musical instrument or sing, as do all the other insects outside during the long, lingering days of summer. One warm, June evening, Freddie instantly becomes aware of his gift, which enables him to provide what is needed for the bug symphony to come together and perform, making music in the summer night. The book was born in 1974 when Drake began to tell her three-year-old son, Tad, a bedtime story. Just then a small, bright firefly fastened itself to the bedside window's screen, flashing and glowing as if it had a story of its own to tell. Tad named him "Freddie" and Mom began the lyrical story of Freddie's Symphony. The work was completed when Drake and Clauson put their heads together and wrote the rest of the story in lyrical rhyme. A song is included in the book, which relates the theme and points out the truth that every one has a unique and special gift. Shipping may be from our Sydney, NSW warehouse or from our UK or US warehouse, depending on stock availability.
