Reliures en plein maroquin rouge, triple filet doré sur les plats, dentelles sur les coupes, tranches dorées, plats frappés aux armes de Maria-Feodorovna, née princesse Sophie-Dorothée de Wurtemberg-Montbéliard (1759 1828), seconde épouse en 1776 du tsar Paul Ier de Russie (1754 1801), mère des tsars Alexandre Ier (1777 1825) et Nicolas Ier (1796 1855): à droite les armes des Romanov, à gauche celles des Wurtemberg, au centre celles de l'Empire russe, le tout ceint du cordon de l'ordre de Sainte Catherine (reliure de la fin du XVIIIe siècle). Sur les trois contre-plats de tête, un ex-libris rectangulaire de la bibliothèque du Palais de Pavlovsk (Saint-Pétersbourg), de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle. Construit entre 1782 et 1786 pour le futur Paul Ier, le Palais de Pavlovsk fut sa résidence favorite et resta occupé par sa veuve jusqu'à sa propre mort en 1828. Une partie des collections et des livres du palais fut vendue en Occident à partir de 1928 par le gouvernement soviétique, pour se procurer des devises. Première édition collective des mémoires de Charles de Valois duc d'Angoulême (1573 1650), de ceux de François-Annibal duc d'Estrées (1573 1670), déjà parus anonymement en 1668, de ceux de Gaston d'Orléans (1608 1660), dus en réalité à Etienne Algay de Martignac (1620 1698) et déjà publiés en 1683, et de ceux de Claude Guichard Déageant (1574 1645), publiés pour la première fois en 1668.Un ouvrage d'une provenance exceptionnelle, dans un état irréprochable.
