Condition: Near Fine. _____Single sheet, 17 x 21 7/8", printed on one side, folded and mounted into stiff paper covers (6 x 3.5"). _____ The covers are printed with the title: "Farm Lands / For Sale / In Hand County / South Dakota / Where Crops Are / Always Sure and / Corn and Cattle / Are King / This is Where We Do Business / McCullen Land Co. / Miller, South Dakota." There is more information from the sponsoring company on the the inside front and outside rear covers._____ . _____ The top 3.5" of the map sheet is printed with tabular farm statistics for 1908 as well as more copy from the McCullen Co. _____ The map itself is 11.5 x 18.5", black & white with counties outlined in red._____ The town of Miller is starred and its surrounding Hand County printed in gold._____ Towns, railroads, reservations, creeks, rivers and lakes across the state are all located._____though not indexed._____ There are some topographic hachures in the Black Hills region. _____ The verso is blank. _____ The map was mis-mounted into the covers (so that south is at the top) and has been misfolded in the past. _____ WorldCat (12/13) shows 5 holdings for a ca._____1909 issue._____ Three are at Yale and one each at USD and UMi._____ None have this sponsor's copy or details. _____ Karrow/SD (11-0740) shows a similar Peterson ca.1909 pocket map but with different land company details. _____.

Condition: Very Good. _____Single sheet, 17 x 22", printed on one side and folded to 12 panels._____ All the folds have been archivally reinforced on the blank rear._____ . _____ The map is basically in black & white, with counties outlined in red._____ The counties of Mellette and Bennett have been overprinted in green indicating the location of the lands to be opened._____ The US Land office in Gregory has been circled in red in the press._____ There are a couple of 1" dark spots at the northern border of the state. _____ Three of the sheet's borders are occupied by text boxes extolling the agricultural advancements of the state. _____ In fact, most Anglo purchasers found the reservation lands in the state to be bleak and inhospitable and tended to abandon their claims within a few years._____The opening of the Rosebud Reservation continued the checkerboarding of Indian lands in Dakota._____with each tribal member being entitled to a smaller and smaller share._____ Some ended up owning only a percentage of a single acre. _____ Not in WorldCat (03/23) or Karrow SD._____.
