Softbound. Condition: VG. Color illustrated wraps. 121 pp. followed by 106 large bw plates. A few color plates also. Issued in conjunction with a series of 1971-1972 exhibitions. "While the exhibition has slightly suffered in breadth from the unavailability of fragile panels, pastels, and huge decorations, it will at once be evident that the works of art are of a gloriously high quality and that there are styles indigenious to The Netherlands. And it is obvious that these artists, as the ordinary citizen and the rich burgher, dearly loved their land." (preface) With an essay by J. W. Niemeijer, a summary of major historical events in Holland (1700-1800), an exhibitions history and selected bibliography. In addition to the 106 works that the catalogue presents, portraits of the artists, when available, are reproduced next to their catalogue entries.
