First published in the US in 1984. The author uses architectural, archaeological and his…torical research to decode the function of the Great Zimbabwe ruins of Southern Africa. Analysing building techniques and Africa's cultural history, he concludes that the Great Zimbabwe was built as a ninth century camp for black slaves before they were shipped to the Middle East. Edward Wilfrid Nassau Mallows (1905-2003), architect, was born in England and emigrated to South Africa in 1939.
