Condition: ottimo. Cornice originale Atelier Bruno Rizzato, 45 x 62,5 cm Splendid 19th-century copper engraving example (380 x 600 mm) of a topographical plan of the city of Venice with the islands of Giudecca and San Giorgio, finely colored and engraved by Giacinto Maina and Vincenzo Stanghi, based on a design by Giuseppe Pozzi. The map forms part of the first of the two volumes of the atlas accompanying the Corografia fisica, storica e statistica d'Italia e delle sue isole, a monumental twelve-volume work published in Florence between 1833 and 1845 by the cartographer and geographer Attilio Zuccagni-Orlandini (1784-1872), widely regarded as a comprehensive synthesis of knowledge on pre-unification Italy. The publication is further enriched with numerous geographical and topographical maps, as well as illustrative plates. More specifically, the first volume of the Atlante Geografico degli Stati Italiani, drawn from the most reliable and up-to-date cartographic sources to accompany Zuccagni-Orlandini's work, contains fifteen sheets of the large map of Italy, together with chorographic and topographical maps of Northern (or "Upper") Italy in fifty-two sheets. Through both numerical and alphabetical indexes, the map is annotated in the upper and lower right-hand sections with the toponyms of the principal religious and secular sites of the city, including parishes, churches, oratories, charitable institutions, educational establishments, governmental buildings, barracks, and public civil facilities. In the lower left corner, a scale is provided in metres and "Venetian paces", accompanied by an illustration depicting a soldier in a rowing boat bearing the flag of the Republic of Venice. (Moretto, Romanelli, Vanin, Venezia dopo la caduta Ritratti cartografici (2026), 80.) Original frame by Atelier Bruno Rizzato, 45 x 62,5 cm. Autografato dall'autore.
