Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Stated first edition of the book from 1950. The book includes a signed letter from John Haynes Holmes, who wrote the introduction for this book. John Haynes Holmes (1879-1964) was an American Unitarian minister, pacifist, and co-founder of the NAACP and t…he ACLU. The signed letter is on letterhead from Holmes' church The Community Church of New York. This book comes from the library of avid book collector, Mr. Dakin, who would often mail his books to the authors to get them signed. Mr. Dakin contacted John Haynes Holmes in hopes of getting the address of Madeline Slade (the subject of the book) so she could sign it. The letter in the book is Holmes' response to this request, including the supposed address of Madeline Slade. Unfortunately, the book remains unsigned, so it's likely Mr. Dakin never sent it to the address given by Holmes. The book is a hardcover with a dust jacket (DJ). The DJ condition is Good, and the book condition is Very Good. The book has a notable "old book" odor, but is clean. The fore edge of the text block is roughly cut and bumped in spots. The bottom edge of the text block is also a bit roughly trimmed. Pages are bright, clean, and clear of writing, markings, highlighting, etc. Binding tight. Hinges tight. Hardcover boards rubbed a bit along bottom edges and corners; fabric on top/bottom of spine curling in. Boards have a slight warp. DJ has small rips and chips at corners, top/bottom of spine, and spots along edges. DJ ink rubbed along edges. Spine of DJ toned. Ding on top of spine of DJ. Signed by Author(s).
