Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores Canada's economic and social landscape in the early 20th century, particularly focusing on the period leading up to and including World War I. The author, a Canadian with a deep understanding of the country's history and politics, provides a critical analysis of the nation's industrial development, taxation policies, and social issues prevalent during that time. The book delves into the complex relationship between agriculture and manufacturing industries, highlighting the challenges faced by Canadian farmers and the need for a more balanced economic approach. It critiques the government's reliance on indirect taxation, arguing for a fairer distribution of the tax burden. The author also examines the rise of labor unions and the struggles of the working class, shedding light on the social and economic tensions that shaped Canadian society at the time. By examining the historical context and exploring the ideas and debates of the era, this book offers valuable insights into the complexities of Canada's development as a nation. Condition: Very Good. Free franks are hand stamped British parliamentary mail, issued from the 1650s to 1840. The free franking privilege was removed from parliamentarians in 1840 when Rowland Hill's postal reforms brought the postage stamp into use. Free franking had been intended to allow MPs to send letters free of charge, but the system was abused by MPs and fell into disrepute due to being used by friends and business associates of the Members. During the early 19th Century there was a mania for collecting these panels, which was accomplished by cutting the address panel from the envelope. The Free Front here is presented with a neatly prepared A4 data-sheet showing the details of the MP it is connected with. Category: Ephemera; Free Frank Panels. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the field of orthopaedic surgery as it was used to treat injuries of World War I soldiers, arguing that the lessons learned from this conflict can be applied to future conflicts as well. By looking at the approaches taken by British and Canadian army medical corps, the author highlights the ways in which these techniques set the stage for reconstructive surgery as practiced today. Orthopaedic surgery became a major focus of medical care for these troops because it focused on the restoration of injured limbs, allowing soldiers to return to the front or civilian life with the best possible outcomes. Detailed descriptions of methods and the surgical tools used in orthopedic surgery, as well as complications that might arise from surgery, are covered as well. The author emphasizes the ways in which ongoing improvements in medical technology and techniques led to increased success in saving limbs and lives. Drawing on the experiences of surgeons who treated countless casualties of the First World War, this book offers valuable insights into the ways in which orthopaedic surgery continues to evolve to meet the needs of those who have suffered physical trauma.
