He is the last living Impressionist painter, a master in colour divisionism. He was a student of Jean~Gabriel Domergue, painting beside Henri Le Sidaner, Rene Montezin, Dunoyer de Segonzac. He is, above all, the great successor of Henri Martin who taught Pierre Boudet to treat pointillism with patience, in the footsteps of Seurat and Signac. As a fantastic drawer he is the greatest chronicler of the magnificent XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries architecture of Versailles. Embodying the perfect « Honnete Homme of the XVIIIth century » Pierre Boudet is an outstanding piano player and a fascinating philosopher. The rythm of his positive philosophy impregnates his painting. Since 1980, Stanislas Machoir has been an auctioneer in Bourgogne and later in Versailles. He grew up in an artistic background with a mother who is altogether a sculptress and a restorer of the Louvre old paintings. In spite of his attraction for the Art of the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries, Stanislas Machoir's practice in Versailles was for a long time the beacon of broken records in fantastic bids for classic Modern Painting embodied by painters like Brayer, Montezin, Domergue, Limouse, Charchounne, Lapicque, Lorjou, Hilaire, Toffoli, Quizet, Carzou, Mentor and many others. Less attracted to the present abstract painting he was monetheless, responsible for the discovery of painters like Robert Marc, Mara Lambert Rucki, Pierre Boudet and others. He suggested the idea of this book and guided it into its final completion with great enthusiasm for Pierre Boudet's eccentricity.

Crisp, untorn dust jacket shows little minor wear. CD looks pristine. -- This French-language monograph combines a biographical study with an "essai de catalogue raisonné" of the painter and lithographer Pierre Boudet (1915-2011). Described as the final link to the French Impressionist and Pointillist traditions, Boudet maintained a career spanning seven decades, defined by a commitment to the study of light and colour that stood in refined contrast to the mid-century shift toward abstraction. The author, Stanislas Machoïr, draws on his background in art expertise and the French auction market to provide a rigorous framework for authenticating and situating Boudet's prolific oeuvre. The text explores Boudet's development from his training under Jean-Gabriel Domergue to his modern application of pointillist techniques - the juxtaposition of pure colour to create luminosity and atmosphere. Beyond his visual output, the book delves into his identity as a philosopher and musician, suggesting that his rhythmic application of paint was deeply informed by his musical training and a meditative worldview. The geographical range of his subjects - including Paris, Versailles, the Normandy coast, Venice, and Moroccan cities such as Marrakech - is systematically documented through the catalogue raisonné section. Published during Boudet's lifetime, when the artist was eighty-eight, the volume serves as the primary scholarly reference for his work. For researchers and collectors, this catalogue provides essential documentation of a "late" impressionism that remained technically vibrant long after its 19th-century inception. By preserving the "esprit français" in figurative art, the work remains a definitive resource for curators and historians of 20th-century French painting.
