Seller: Munster & Company LLC, ABAA/ILAB, Corvallis, OR, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Paris / [Austin, Texas]: Editions la Lutte Socialist / The Southwestern Social Science Quarterly, 1939. 205 pp / [126]-134 pp. Library binding styled blue buckram covered boards with gitl titling to spine, and five leaves excised from the SSSQ and stapled together and laid in at front of book. Sunning to spine of book with uneven sunning along spine edge of front cover. Rubbing to spine and spine ends. Some light uneven toning to endpapers, with some offset toning to front free endpaper from a newspaper clipping that has been laid in. Some dogear creases to bottom corner of first few pages. Notes in pencil scattered throughout text. Bending, creasing, and some light soil to inserted article, with some nicking along fore-edge. Red 'X' on verso of top page, which in the journal would have been the recto. This copy of Bauer's 'Die Illegale Partei' was previously owned by H. Malcolm MacDonald, who was a professor of government at the University of Texas, Austin. The book figured heavily in MacDonald's 1952 piece 'Illegal Socialist Parties and Their Organization', and it is MacDonald's own printed copy that he removed from the journal that is included here. Scattered throughout the text of Bauer's work are notes written by MacDonald, which he undoubtedly referenced when writing his article. Hard Cover. Very Good.

First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Fold out, color printed lithograph map on linen, 29" x 37 1/8" in brown cloth binder with red backstrip reinforced with patterned tape. Compiled and published by Joseph H. Harper, U. S. Land Dept. and Malcolm L. MacDonald, U. S. Deputy Mineral Land Surveyor. Contains a "List of claims too small to name on map." This map of "The Richest Hill on Earth," shows just how dense activity was in the city at the turn of the century, creating considerable wealth for many of its prospectors and speculators. With the influx of industrial workers and the dangerous conditions of the trade, Butte became a focal point of union activism, and came to be known as "The Gibraltar of Unionism." The map also shows rail lines, topographical features, and landmarks such as the Butte Racing Association track. Very good condition with several claims hand colored in red of varying patterns, and a few pencil markings. Spine of binder is mostly worn away under the tape and there is some chipping and soiling to front pastedown. Cloth covers show some rubbing and wearl. OCLC locates 2 copies of this scarce, important map.
