Soft cover. Condition: Very Good Plus. First Edition. 2005. PP v, 17 double pages of Hieroglyphs with notes opposite and 12 b&w plates. Softcover in excellent condition with no inscriptions. From the Preface - "The publication of this transcription of Papyrus Westcar (Berlin Papyrus 3033) is long overdue. Blackman collated the Papyrus during a visit to Berlin in 1936, intending that The Story of King Kheops and the Magicians', as he entitled the text, should be included in his projected Middle-Egyptian Stories, Part II, a work which, unfortunately, he was never able to finish. The autographing in ink of the transcription and of the accompanying annotations was subsequently completed by Blackman's successor as Professor of Egyptology at Liver-pool, H. W. Fairman, whose aim, in turn, of seeing the work through into print was also unfulfilled. There is little need to justify its publication at the present time. The transcription of Papyrus Westcar given below represents, I believe, a significant advance both in its format and palaeographically over all previous efforts, and indeed it is the first full transcription of the text to be published since Erman's editio princeps, which is now nearly a hundred years old. In the work of editing I have sought to interfere as little as possible with Blackman's original text. For the sake of completeness I have incorporated some further comments of Blackman, preserved among his papers at the University of Liverpool (identified below as 'additional notes'), and in a small number of cases, mostly with reference to points of palaeography, I have thought it useful to supplement the annotations and to add pertinent bibliography. Most importantly, in the very few places where clear error had crept in, I have corrected the transcription. Where it was possible to do so without disrupting the format, I have made the necessary emendation, either by simple addition or deletion; otherwise I have noted the error.".…
