Folio, illustrated cover with inset portrait of the Australian singer Florence Young (front cover detached), 3 pp of musical notation, first page with wet stamp of S. Marshall & Sons, 52 Rundle St., Adelaide, internally clean and sound. Originally a song in the Broadway musicalTwirly Wirly, starring the comedians Weber & Fields and the famous singer Lillian Russell. John Stromberg had been the musical director for the comedians. When he was found dead, the manuscript was found on his body. Russell, who sang the song, broke down on the opening night part way through the song. The Australian performer Florence Young (1870-1920) first appeared in the 1890 Melbourne production of Suppe?s Boccacio and was one of Australia's premier performersof light opera and music theatre through to the First World War period. Two copies are recorded in Australian collections (National Library of Australia; State Library of New south Wales).
