Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book tells the sweeping story of the Israelites as depicted in the Old Testament. Moses leads the Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land. Joshua sends spies to assess the land, and the Israelites conquer Jericho. The period of the Judges finds Israel suffering for its sins, and God raising up judges to deliver his people. The books of Ruth, Samuel (First and Second Samuel) and Kings (First and Second Kings) describe the transition from the period of the Judges to the establishment of the monarchy under Saul, David, and Solomon. Divided into two kingdoms, the prophets of God repeatedly call the Israelites to repentance. They are threatened by Assyria in the north and Babylon in the south. Eventually, the author relates the fall of both kingdoms and the Babylonian Exile. This narrative of the history of God's chosen people demonstrates God's faithfulness, provision and deliverance, as well as the consequences of disobedience and idolatry. The conclusion focuses on Ezra and Nehemiah and the rebuilding of the temple and the reconstruction of Jerusalem. (A2).
