Il Fondo Pacinotti è uno dei tesori dell'Ateneo pisano che per lungo tempo è rimasto nascosto e che, poco alla volta, sta riemergendo da un polveroso passato. Questa pubblicazione ci guida nella storia - appassionante e travagliata - del Fondo, attraverso la sua riscoperta, il suo (parziale) recupero, il restauro degli strumenti scientifici di Antonio Pacinotti, fra cui spicca la celeberrima macchina dinamo-motore a corrente continua, meglio nota come macchinetta. Per la prima volta gli strumenti vengono indagati dettagliatamente nel loro funzionamento; viene offerto un punto di vista inedito dell'opera dello scienziato attraverso la descrizione dell'archivio che riemerge da un letargo durato oltre mezzo secolo e che, in buona parte, è ancora inesplorato. Un'opera dunque che riscopre un patrimonio prezioso per l'Università di Pisa e per la storia della scienza.

Proporre strumenti didattici per un uso formativo dei beni culturali nella scuola ha sempre comportato, a nostro avviso, l'obbligo di evitare facili atteggiamenti demagogici quali il limitarci a corrette e chiare informazioni sui contenuti storico-artistici dei problemi. Di fatto, anche le scuole più attrezzate non sono mai apparse in grado di acquisire da sole tutta la strumentazione documentale e iconografica che permettesse di lavorare fruttuosamente con i percorsi di volta in volta proposti. Per questo, sin dall'inizio, per definire l'impianto metodologico della Sezione Didattica voluta dall'allora direttore del Museo Nazionale di San Matteo Antonino Caleca, furono coinvolti nel 1974-75 esperti del mondo della scuola, come Ilario Luperini e Lucia Tomasi Tongiorgi, e poi Mario Lupi e Giovanni Parmini che riportassero nel museo le piu avanzate esperienze, proposte ed esigenze che la scuola esprimeva nel settore. Dalle prime schede metodologiche illustranti i vari percorsi proposti, si poté così passare alla realizzazione di cartelle di materiali didattici che nell'area della provincia pisana per la quale e nella quale la Sezione Didattica del Museo di San Matteo ha sempre svolto funzione di servizio territoriale in stretto collegamento con le politiche formative e culturali degli Enti Locali ha visto la pubblicazione della cartella su Le Mura di Cascina, Le Mura di Pisa e Le croci dipinte. La presente pubblicazione si inserisce in questo filone, mantenendo nella forma-libro, più idonea alla distribuzione non solo in ambito locale, la duttilità e la varietà di strumenti delle cartelle di materiali. La pubblicazione presenta una profonda innovazione del percorso su Luca Signorelli, a lungo sperimentato con le scuole del volterrano, perché il suo uso sia più articolabile nelle varie fasi dell'iter scolastico, più ricco ed estensibile a scuole di altre aree. Anche offrendo, a premessa, ai docenti il cui ruolo, nella progettazione e nella regia di percorsi personalizzati sulle esigenze delle proprie classi e alunni, si tende qui a potenziare un momento di riflessione pedagogico-culturale che si ritiene essenziale anche per meglio definire il rapporto tra l' educazione all'arte, come processo per l'apprendimento linguistico ed espressivo/creativo e un uso formativo dell'arte per favorire la maturazione di un cittadino consapevole non solo delle necessità di tutela del nostro sterminato patrimonio culturale, ma anche di utilizzare tutti gli aspetti di tale patrimonio che possano migliorare la qualità della vita indiviuduale e collettiva e promuovere un corretto sviluppo della società.
