It's as-new unread, 192 pp. "The Infinite Moment," Ballantine original 546, carries only the 1961 copyright date and was originally priced 35 cents. It's "good" with creasing, cover art by Richard Powers, publisher's ad offers "Three Great Science-Fiction Classics" (including Clarke's "Childhood's End") for one dollar; 159 pp. "Re-Birth / They were the Mutants -- the hunted people . . . and the seed of the future," Ballantine original 104, was published in 1955, and originally priced at 35 cents. It's "good" with edge rub, page edges toning, and the original glued binding perhaps strong enough for one more careful reading, jacket illustration by Richard Powers, 187 pp. followed by an ad for a new Arthur C. Clarke novel called "Childhood's End." The three mass-market paperbacks now reduced from $20.

"Wyndham's reputation rests mainly on the first four of the novels published in his life under that name. The Day of the Triffids remains his best-known work, but some readers consider that The Chrysalids was really his best. This is set in the far future of a post-nuclear dystopia where genetic stability is compromised and women are severely oppressed if they give birth to "mutants". David Mitchell, author of Cloud Atlas, wrote of it: "One of the most thoughtful post-apocalypse novels ever written. Wyndham was a true English visionary, a William Blake with a science doctorate." The Guardian states his "innocuously English backdrops are central to the power of his novels, implying that apocalypse could occur at any time or, indeed, be happening in the next village at this moment", while The Times's reviewer of The Day of the Triffids described it as possessing "all the reality of a vividly realised nightmare." A science fiction adventure that imagines a hidden civilization beneath the Sahara Desert. The novel, set in the "future" year of 1964 (as projected from 1935), begins with British playboy Mark Sunnet and his companion Margaret Lawn taking a private rocket-powered pleasure craft on a tour over North Africa. Disaster strikes when their rocket plane malfunctions and crash-lands in a newly formed body of water the "Sahara Sea." (In this speculative future, engineers have flooded a portion of the Sahara to create an inland sea.) Mark and Margaret survive the crash only to be sucked into a cavern through a whirlpool. Regaining consciousness, they find themselves in a vast underground world, captive to a mysterious race of pygmies who dwell in a network of cavern. The Secret People was published under the name "John Beynon," an early pseudonym used by John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Beynon Harris better known later simply as John Wyndham. This was Wyndham's first (or potentially second) novel, written in his twenties. Internally very good; cloth somewhat damp speckled; jacket with a few closed tears, some rubbing, backed onto printed paper. Book.
