Er war Superintendent in Jüterbog und Delitzsch, 1707 Professor zu Wittenberg, zwei Jahre später Superintendent und Oberkonsistorialassessor in Dresden, ein wichtiger Vertreter der lutheranischen Orthodoxie. Löscher war der bedeutendste Gegner des aufkommenden Pietismus, wobei er Forderungen der 'praxis pietatis' aufnahm, sich jedoch gegen die dogmatische Indifferenz wehrte. Nach 1723 wehrte er sich auch gegen den Deismus und trat der Philosophie Chr. Wolffs entgegen.
