[vii], 260pp., a map of Cumnock on the front endpapers, chart of Stones on Calloch Hill on the rear endpapers, and a further map and a genealogical table within the book. This is a history of ancient Strathclyde, centering around Cumnock. Except for the first chapter and an article on the Roman Forests in the south of Scotland by A.G. McLeod, all chapters are independent of any other and complete in themselves. The book is bound in the original dark purple cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling to the boards. There is also some damp marking on the front board. The spine and top 1" of the rear board are faded and there is wear to the titling on the spine. The contents are tight and clean with light foxing to the free endpapers and the author has inscribed the back of the front free endpaper thus: "With the author's best wishes, yours truly Hugh Lorimer".
