En el 2009 se cumplen setenta años del final de la guerra civil española y, por tanto, del comienzo del exilio de muchos artistas republicanos, cuya ausencia dejó un hueco en la vida cultural de nuestra sociedad, el cual solo poco a poco se iría rellenando a medida que fueron regresando…a España o que comenzaron a llegar importantes conjuntos de sus obras. Para algunos casos señalados, incluso se cuenta en la actualidad con fundaciones museísticas monográficamente dedicadas a algunos de estos artistas, creadas a partir de colecciones legadas por ellos mismos, sus familiares o sus amigos. Se ha ido desarrollando en España, pues, un fenómeno museístico particular, todavía en plena efervescencia, sobre el que se esboza una primera aproximación panorámica en este libro, cuyo objetivo es ofrecer una visión de conjunto sobre las exposiciones permanentes y museos monográficos dedicados a los artistas exiliados a causa de nuestra guerra civil.
