Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. First Edition. pp x, 228 + 2 maps at rear. Wear to board edges - very good internally. 'The papers and ledgers which form the subject of this volume originally came from Castleboro, Co. Wexford, and consequently their contents relate mainly to affairs connected with that branch of the Carew family whose principal seat in the 18th century was at Castleboro. But the material is by no means a complete, or even partially complete, family collection. In fact it only represents such fragments as ver very fortunately purchased by Mr, Kelly of Kilpierce, Enniscorthy, at an auction at Castleboro, and thus saved form destruction when the place was shortly afterwards burned in 1922. Later the material was obtained for the Record office in Dublin, through the good offices of the late Senator Miss Kathleen Browne of Rathronan Castle, Co. Wexford. The work is divided into three sections: Part I - Rentals: Co. Wexford 1740-58; Waterford 1744-63; Wexford 1780-98; Waterford 1780-1816; Wexford 1811-37. Part II - Accounts - Woodstown and Castleboro 1746-82. Part III - Miscellaneous: Memorandum Book 1672-77 and 1704-27; Servants' Book 1780-93; Dysart Rents 1798-1809; Misc. Documents 1740-1840.
