First edition, edition signed, of this semi-autobiographical and breezy "tale from the tall timber with one heroine vs. sixty heroes," when Irma suddenly left her successfully married sister's home in San Francisco, to take a job as a second cook in a logging camp deep in the southern Oregon woods near Coos Bay cooking over 300 pancakes and 20 pies a day to feed the ravening crew. Emmerson Smith (1905-1978) lived most of her life near Coos Bay, OR where the story is set, and later married Edison Smith, one of the loggers who ate her pancakes at the Ticoma Logging Camp. Muir (1906-1973) had worked as a editor for the Oregon Journal during World War II, before eventually settling in San Francisco, and wrote several books including "The Adventures of Grizzley Adams," "Pigeon Feathers," "Stranger Tread Light," and collaborated on Helen Hastings' "A Little Widow is a Dangerous Thing.".…
