BD as he was know served in the First World War becoming well known for his role in the Christmas truce and his meeting with the Germans in no mans land and carol singing made the front pages of at least one newspaper, his commanding General was not amused. Later in command of the 1st Battalion Leicestershire's he was gassed and invalided home in 1916 at the age of 42.…
