Otherwise a clean copy with no markings or annotations. John X. Merriman (1841-1926) served as the eleventh Prime Minister of the Cape Colony from 1908 to 1910, when the Union of South Africa was formed, and served a total of 42 years as member of Aliwal North, Wodehouse, Namaqualand, and Victoria West. This is one of several volumes of his correspondence. The Van Riebeeck Society which published this is now HiPSA, Historical Publications Southern Africa, and remains responsible for publishing documents illustrative of the history of the region.…
