For the long-in-tooth and young-in-heart, here is a lovingly created, authentic replication of the wondrous fan literature of 1930's moviedom. Whether new or old to the pleasures of movie fandom, the editor invites you "to turn on your Tiffany lamp" and savor this most happy time when the movies were a world of truly pure make-believe. MARTIN LEVIN, the curator of these memorabilia, lived as a boy in Santa Monica, California, at a time when "hardly anyone's father had a job, and down on the Pacific Palisades Marion Davies had a white and green mansion with gold faucets. Gold faucets!" He now conducts the Phoenix Nest column in Saturday Review, and A Reader's Report, a weekly column of criticism in the New York Times Book Review. The dust jacket is slightly wrinkled at the top, and the last 2 or 3 pages are also in the upper right corner. All orders shipped protected in a box. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. Revised Edition. The Book of Popular Science (Complete 1960 10 Volume Encyclopedia Set) Spanning thousands of pages, this comprehensive encyclopedia demystifies the natural and physical world science through accessible language, striking B&W and full color photographs, detailed diagrams, and charts. Published by The Grolier Society, Inc. who are also the publishers of The Book of Knowledge. The goal for this collection is to be usable and comprehensible to motivated high school students. Knowledge to equip one for working in a technological world. Heavily illustrated on glossy paper with 60 full-color plates interspersed. Revamped every few years since its introduction in 1924, The Book of Popular Science Encyclopedia developed a staff, methods and resources to be able to revamp the set annually. The 1960 leadership was: Lowell A. Martin (Editorial Director); Lawrence M. Levin (Editor in Chief); Paul H. Cassidy (Illustration Director) plus 10 named Editors/Directors; with 141 named contributors. This 1960 set of hardcovers was issued without dust jackets but with a full-color photo bound to front cover unique to volume number. Boards are green tweed cloth with red lettering and volume number in yellow shadowbox on front and spine. Interiors are tight, clean and unmarked. Most never been opened. Entire set fits in 12" linear shelf space. It is not believable for an item produced over 65 years ago to be called new. If it were in mint condition, we'd grade it as fine. This set is in near fine condition because of minor shelf wear and 2" separation of front end-pages from text block at top in Volume One. Always privately owned with no ownership markings. Extremely rare in excellent condition. Copyright 1960 and every year 1959-1950, 1947-1945, 1943, 1941, 1939, 1931-1928, 1926, 1924. Printed in U.S.A. Print-run not identified. LCCN: 60-5091. No ISBN nor MSR. Thanks for looking. Paul H. Cassidy (Illustration Director) plus 12 named Editors/Directors; 141 named contributors (illustrator). No Ownership Markings.
