Hij was gedurende 34 jaar hoogleraar dierkunde aan de Vrije Universiteit te Amsterdam en is lid van de Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen. Al zo'n zeventig jaar stelt deze christen-bioloog zich vragen over schepping en evolutie.
