Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. 1968 British hardcover edition of The Death of Adolf Hitler by Lev Bezymenski, published by Michael Joseph, London. The work is presented here in English translation from the original German edition, Der Tod des Adolf Hitler, and draws on Soviet investigative material concerning Hitler's final days. This copy carries notable historical provenance, having belonged to Larry L. Taylor, US Army Captain, later awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in Vietnam in 1968. The book contains two period inscriptions in red and black ink, preserved exactly as written: Front fixed endpaper: CAPT. Larry L. Taylor 2d ACR AIR TROOP NURNBERG, GERMANY 21 DECEMBER 1968 Rear free endpaper: LARRY L TAYLOR 2 ACR AIR TROOP APO 09093 NEW YORK 21 December 1968 An additional Taylor is inked on the dust jacket, consistent with ownership. The identical date across bothmany and APO New York inscriptions suggests the volume accompanied Taylor during transit between postings in December 1968, and assumably read the entire volume on the flight since he marked both the start and finish on the front and back. This is especially notable as it is the same year as the actions for which he later received the Medal of Honor. In June 1968, during intense fighting near Duc Co in Vietnam, Larry L. Taylor distinguished himself while serving as a helicopter pilot with the 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry, 1st Aviation Brigade. Responding to a call for help from a four man long range reconnaissance patrol surrounded by a much larger enemy force, Taylor repeatedly flew his lightly armed AH 1G Cobra gunship at extremely low altitude through heavy enemy fire to provide close air support, expending his rockets and ammunition to keep the enemy at bay. When it became clear the team could not be extracted by conventional means, he made the extraordinary decision to land his attack helicopter, never intended for troop transport, in a confined enemy occupied area under direct fire. With his wingman providing cover, Taylor successfully brought the entire patrol aboard and lifted off, escaping through intense fire and safely returning all four soldiers to friendly lines, an act of conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity for which he was later awarded the Medal of Honor. Condition: Hardcover: Good, minor wear and discoloring from age Dust jacket: Present but in poor condition, with significant tears, staining, and price clipping Interior: Foxing on interior pages along with uniform yellowing from age, aside from inscriptions noted Binding: Sound Notes: A desirable association copy tied to a highly decorated US Army officer, with clear dated military inscriptions from a pivotal moment in his service.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. A rare first edition book in the UK. The Death of Adolf Hitler-Unknown documents from the Soviet archives-form the basis of this remarkable investigation by Soviet journalist Lev Bezymenski, who served as an interpreter in the Battle of Berlin. The book, originally written in German, gives details of the purported Soviet autopsies of Adolf Hitler, Eva Braun, Joseph and Magda Goebbels, their children, and General Krebs. All of these individuals are recorded as having been subjected to cyanide poisoning; contrary to the Western conclusion (and the accepted view of historians) that Hitler died by a suicide gunshot. The book's release was preceded by various contradictory reports about Hitler's death, including Much of the information presented in the book about how Hitler died (namely by poisoning or a coup de grâce) has been discredited, including by the author, as propaganda. Hitler's body was burned almost completely to ashes, meaning that there would be no corpse to conduct an autopsy upon. Only the Soviet description of Hitler's dental remains, consisting of a golden bridge and a mandibular fragment with teeth, is regarded as reliable; the book contains many previously unreleased monochrome photographs. Unmarked green boards with price-clipped dust jacket in good condition with slight tear by lower spine. Protected with loose cellophane wrapper. Some slight foxing to top edge of book pages, first flyleaf is stamp embossed. Size: 150mm x 230mm 114 pages.
