8°. [2] Bl.,10 Original-Holzschnitte nach Linolschnitten, [2] Bl. Orig.-Kartonumschlag. Katalog Max Bill, Typografie, Reklame, Buchgestaltung, Zürich 1999, S. 264 f. (mit Abb.). - Eines 100 num. Exemplaren (Gesamtauflage 120 Exemplare). One of 100 numbered copies (total print run 120 copies). An important document of concrete and constructive art in Switzerland. 'The 10 compositions' form a coherent sequence: variations on the same underlying theme. The theme itself remains hidden from us. We sense it in the symmetrical forms that characterise the first sheet in particular. Time and again they recur, more or less visibly, culminating in the final composition with the central rhombus. This recurring theme, which is surrounded by elements constantly taking shape in new combinations and developments whilst maintaining a rhythmic relationship with one another, leads from the simple structure of the first sheet, through the varied and dynamic central sheets, to the radiant final sheet, which, in a light, dissolved state and with dynamic freedom, is heightened to a synthesis of the relationship between the colours black and white" (Max Bill). - The Swiss painter, graphic artist and sculptor Leo Leuppi (18931972) founded the renowned avant-garde artists' association 'Allianz' (Association of Modern Swiss Artists) in 1937 together with Richard Paul Lohse and served as its dedicated president for many years. His style evolved from figurative beginnings (influenced by Cubism) towards geometric abstraction and the Zurich School of Concrete Art. - The cover is slightly dusty at the edges, but otherwise in very good condition.…
