Court No. 1 at County Hall, Lewes, Sussex, was second only to London's Old Bailey for the number of head-line murder trials held there during the forty-year period that the author, as an active newspaperman, knew the little Assize Court. His duties took him not only to the actual trials but also, in many cases, through all the preliminary investigations. In this book he writes of nine trials, including Field and Gray, Mahon, Fox, Haigh, and Hepper. The book is bound in the original dark blue boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition and the contents are tight and clean with foxing to the fore edge of the text block. There is no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has some shelf wear with light soiling and the spine is sunned. The top corners and top of the spine are bumped and there are nicks at the top of the spine. The top of the spine has been reinforced on the reverse with a strip of tape.…
