Hardback. Condition: Very Good. The two letters to the Thessalonians dwell richly on the Christian hope and emphasize the significance of the Christian calling in the here and now. In this commentary Leon Morris offers a solid exegetical discussion of specific problems relating to the composition of the letters themselves, yet his exposition is also pervaded by an acute awareness of the relevance of Paul's message to the practical problems encountered in living the Christian life. Long published as part of the New International Commentary on the New Testament series and here reprinted in paperback, this classic work on 1 and 2 Thessalonians has proved -- and will continue to prove -- useful to a wide range of readers, including scholars, pastors, Bible students, and educated Christians.…

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. New Testament scholars have widely recognized and acknowledged the occasional nature of Paul's first canonical letter to the Corinthians. In the letter, Paul addresses real problems that were faced by real people in a real world. This commentary shows how the church in the twenty-first century mirrors the Corinthian Church in many ways. It goes further to show how the church in the present day, particularly its leaders, could benefit from how Paul addressed the situations that the church faced. 1 Corinthians serves as our most detailed source of information regarding the good, the bad, and ugly in the daily life of early followers of Jesus. For that reason, Paul's letter to these believers offers us valuable guidance for today's church. In this commentary, Dr. Ayodeji Adewuya provides a helpful resource for the busy pastor looking for help with sermon preparation on this important letter. At the same time, this book will assist today's serious Christian wanting to understand Paul's letter to these Spirit-filled but divided Christians in a deeper way. --James Miller, Asbury Seminary This is an excellent book bridging the gap between biblical scholarship and how the church needs to grow in maturity and in numbers--providing useful insights, resources, and training in support of church ministries. The rare combination of brilliant scholarship and an unapologetic African pastor's urge comes through the pages as a gift to the global church. I appreciate the depth and breadth, as well as the challenge it offers for spiritual maturity. It is spiritually edifying and refreshing to journey along with Professor Adewuya on tour exploring what is going on in 1 Corinthians and how that may inform how we live as Christians. --from the foreword by Dan Darko, Gordon College J. Ayodeji Adewuya is professor of New Testament at the Pentecostal Theological Seminary, Cleveland, Tennessee. He is the author of several books, including Holiness in the Letters of Paul (2016). He is a pastor, missionary, and church planter.…

Paperback. Condition: Fair. This work is not a history of New Testament times, nor an account of New Testament religion. Nor does it proceed from a view that the New Testament was written as theology. We must bear in mind that the writers of the New Testament books were not writing set theological pieces. They were concerned with the needs of the churches for which they wrote. Those churches already had the Old Testament, but these new writings became in time the most significant part of the Scriptures of the believing community. As such, they should be studied in their own right, and these questions should be asked: What do these writings mean? What is the theology they express or imply? What is of permanent validity in them? We read these writings across a barrier of many centuries and from a standpoint of a very different culture. We make every effort to allow for this, but we never succeed perfectly. In this book I am trying hard to find out what the New Testament authors meant, and this not as an academic exercise, but as the necessary prelude to our understanding of what their writings mean for us today. -- From the Introduction.…
