Mit 20 Jahren entschied er sich gegen den Wehrdienst und leistete 18 Monate Zivildienst. In dieser Zeit begann er, als Sänger und Gitarrist Musik zu machen. Das tut er bis heute. Seit sieben Jahren arbeitet Martin Lenz mit dem Schriftsteller Manfred Mai zusammen. Im Frühjahr 2009 legten sie ihre erste CD vor. Es folgten "Lesekonzerte" für Erwachsene, später auch für Kinder. Auf der literarisch-musikalischen Reise gibt es lustige und ernste, heitere und nachdenkliche Stationen. Angeregt durch Manfred Mai begann Martin Lenz, Geschichten und Gedichte zu schreiben.
